Hailing from Dagenham comes the R&B/Soul singer, songwriter and producer Bow Promise. Brought up on a vast musical diet of Lover’s Rock, pop and country, though a natural born creative, it’s no surprise that she took the route of music. She soon developed her own music taste to which her mother would cater for, buying vinyl, cassettes and CDs of any song she gravitated to. However it was her uncle’s introducing her to R&B that would later influence her as a musician. Take a listen to her sizzling soul on ‘(Wo)Man.’ Watch the video below.
From then on came nights spent cooped up in her room penning songs with stories she was too young to experience. Brandy and Alicia Keys were early musical influences but it’s
that early exposure to her mother’s wide musical taste that contributes to her ever changing influences today.
At 14, she auditioned for her school talent show. Missing the deadline, she nervously approached a group of sixth form students organizing the event if she could audition on the spot. Singing Destiny’s Child’s “Say My Name”, she immediately got herself a slot. Each year she would audition and perform intent on outdoing her previous performance in stage presence, song and outfit choices.
At the age of 19, Bow Promise enrolled at Barking and Dagenham college to study music,
while having private piano tuition. Here she got a taste for the stage with plenty of
performing opportunities at the Broadway Theatre as a mandatory part of her studies. Five
years later, Bow Promise earned a BA in Music and Arts Management from Middlesex
University. At this point she felt ready to pursue a career as a music artist. In 2013, the singer recorded vocals for the Spinnin Records release Thinking Bout The Things. It got picked up by Pete Tong – which he played on BBC Radio 1 – as well as NME and Line Of Best Fit.

In December 2016 came the 6 track EP (Wo)Man, which has currently been re-released in 2020. The EP features production from Lostchild, LAPLACE and Boyan and guest vocals from fellow college mate Enrico Delves and Poetika. Due to various trials on personal and professional levels, Bow struggled to give the EP the promotion she believed it deserved. However approaching music as a form of therapy, she began crafting new projects which she began to share on her instagram stories.
However, dissatisfied with the pace she was working at, Bow Promise released Love Conquest – a collection of old material to tide her listeners over – in 2019. 4 Years later Bow decided to completely reset, changing distributors, carving new material and re-releasing (Wo)Man in order for the debut release to reach new audiences, before the gems she’s been holding back finally get their time to shine. (Wo)Man was produced by Lostchild and written by Bow Promise and Leona Melius. The video was directed by Marcus Hessenberg. If you’re a fan of Neo/Soul, Bow Promise is an artist to check out.
